Bukit Panjang

After around 18 months in Australia, I finally took a trip back to Singapore. These photos were taken on a series of walks around HDB flats in the centre and north of the island.
The families living in these suburbs occupy space hundreds of times more densely than is typical in Australia. Every space is carefully and tightly filled and the difference is striking. The concrete forms of the residential towers have an oppressive linear geometry, pulling you through endless interconnected void decks, stairwells and passages.

These photos were taken Yishun and Toa Payoh, but mostly in Bukit Panjang.

Kia lai kia ker.
